Inpatient Services


Edwards County Medical Center's 12-bed inpatient unit provides overnight hospitalization for patients of all ages. Experienced nurses with advanced training offer personalized, compassionate care. Our nurses work with other health care professionals and specialists to serve patients.

Acute care is where a patient receives active, but short-term treatment for a severe injury or episode of illness, an urgent medical condition, or during recovery from surgery. In medical terms, care for acute health conditions is the opposite of chronic care or longer-term care.

Swing bed is a program that allows patients to receive skilled care services at Edwards County Medical Center once acute hospital care is no longer required, but the patient continues to need services that cannot be easily provided in the patient's home. The program is designed to assist patients in reaching their highest potential for health and independence prior to returning to their home.

Inpatient services may also include the following:

  • Telemetry (cardiac monitoring)
  • Blood transfusions
  • IV antibiotic therapy
  • Fluid replacement therapy
